President Barack Obama

Our city has many special needs unique to our area.  At First Emanuel Baptist Church, we are “a church with vision, and have faith that acts.” We are taking the challenge to do our best to meet those needs.  On Sunday, August, 26, 2007, we were joined by President-elect Barack Obama.

Democrat Barack Obama said Sunday the country cannot fail New Orleans again and that as president, he would keep the city in mind every day.

Sen. Obama, whose day began at First Emanuel Baptist Church, said that long before Katrina, the nation had failed to lift up New Orleans, a city with persistent struggles such as poverty and poor public schools. He said that cannot happen again and that Americans have a “collective responsibility” to each other. (The Advocate – B.R. LA)

It was truly refreshing to hear that someone else has the interest of God’s people.  Sen. Obama seems to be sincere in having compassion for the people of New Orleans. His speech was about having empathy for one another, something this country only shows towards other countries.
